The main aim of the festival is to draw attention to children cinema.

The festival includes competion and non-competion programmes featuring the best new and old children movies, master classes by popular actors and directors of theater and cinema, creative meetings, excursions and other cultural and recreational activities.

Very beautiful theatrical show of the opening of "The Scarlet Sails" festival invariably stirs the delight of the spectators.

The best children creative groups from Moscow, Moscow region and other regions of Russia take part in the opening and closing ceremonies.

This year, apart for the competition of new feature full-length films, the competition of animated films and short feature and artistic-journalistic movies is organized.

Out-of-competition programme includes a selection of films dedicated to the anniversary of the festival president, People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy, the 95-th anniversary of Yalta film studio, the 70-th anniversary of the liberation of Crimea, the history of Russian fleet, the 200-th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko and other themes.

The festival is supported by the Ministry of culture of Russian Federation, the Government of the city of Moscow, the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow, the Ministry of Culture of Moscow region, the Union of Cinematographists of Russia and other state and public organizations.
